In Pursuit of Synergy in Learning and Teaching:
Sustainability in Moral Quest

The presentation focuses on synergy between teaching and learning by drawing upon the book Teachers as Learners: Critical Discourse on Challenges and Opportunities (published in 2010). In responses to tensions and paradoxes brought by educational reforms in an array of cultural settings and methodological orientations, the contributors come to a resonance to reveal contextual burdens that teachers should not carry in isolation. For illustration, a case study of curriculum innovation in the University of Hong Kong will be presented with a focus on evaluation of teaching and learning.
The seminar will invite participants to consider teachers’ inner power to learn, regardless of levels in basic or higher education, as the less visible moral dimension in quest for higher goals is better understood. The discourse can open up a vision for a collective space across boundaries to turn challenges into opportunities for sustainable commitment to education.
